How to convert VTT to SRT

  1. 1. Open your VTT file

Choose a UTF-8 .vtt file. Check the diagnostics before converting.

  2. 2. Review the output

Review losses such as styles, regions and cue settings. Acknowledge them before downloading.

  3. 3. Download the result

The original is preserved. Your file is processed in your browser.

What this tool supports

SRT cannot store WebVTT styles, regions, positioning settings or cue identifiers. If your file contains them, review the exact losses before converting. Streaming time mappings and inline timestamps block conversion.

SRT or VTT · UTF-8 · Up to 2 MiB or 10,000 cues

Convert WebVTT into numbered SRT cues for a workflow that requires .srt. Cue text and times can carry over, but VTT styling, positioning and document metadata need a separate loss review.

Review the information SRT cannot carry

CueRefine reports VTT NOTE, STYLE and REGION blocks, extra header information, cue positioning settings, cue identifiers and unsupported markup before cross-format export. The simple example below has none of those extras.

Bold, italic and underline tags remain in converted cue text. Other markup may be removed or converted to plain labels. A voice annotation becomes a speaker label; do not assume complex VTT styling will look the same in SRT.

When conversion stops

Inline cue timestamps and X-TIMESTAMP-MAP streaming mappings block cross-format conversion. They need a workflow that understands their timing semantics. Keeping or downloading the unchanged source is different from converting it.

Supported files and processing

Free tools accept UTF-8 SRT and WebVTT, up to 2 MiB and 10,000 cues. Processing happens in your browser, without an account. The local draft is stored in this browser and can be cleared; it is not a cloud backup.

Questions about this tool

Is VTT to SRT lossless?

Not for every file. Plain timed dialogue can transfer, but SRT cannot represent all WebVTT structures. Review the actual losses shown for your file before you acknowledge export.

Do overlaps mean the file is broken?

Overlapping or unsorted cues are reported as warnings and kept in their original order. CueRefine does not silently sort or remove them.

Can I keep the original VTT?

Yes. The source file is preserved. An unchanged same-format export preserves the original bytes; conversion creates a separate output.
